Game 2 Preview: Heartlanders duel with Mavs on the road

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders (1-0-0-0, 0 pts., 1st Central) are set for a rematch at the Kansas City Mavericks (0-1-0-0, 0 pts., T-5th Mountain) Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The Heartlanders and Mavs played Friday at Xtream Arena in Iowa’s first game ever and the Heartlanders won 7-4. Hunter Jones earned his first ECHL win, Billy Constantinou and Kris Bennett scored twice and the Heartlanders rode Ryan Kuffner’s early goal at :25 to victory.

The Heartlanders are home three times next week, starting Wednesday vs. Wheeling Nailers at 7:00 p.m. Iowa then hosts the Toledo Walleye on Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30 at Xtream Arena. Storylines:
- Kris Bennett and Billy Constantinou each scored the first two professional goals of their career Friday in the win. Bennett played nine games last season with Stockton, the AHL affiliate of the Mavericks. Meanwhile Constantinou, playing in his first game since before the pandemic, scored his first goal since the 2019-20 season in the OHL with Soo.

- Ryan Kuffner’s goal at :25 seconds sent the more than 4,000 fans into frenzy at Xtream Arena. Officially, 4017 fans watched the game. Kuffner is the first player in Heartlanders history to have played in the NHL.

- The teams combined for 58 PIM in game one. Iowa and Kansas City combined for nine power-play opportunities. Adrien Beraldo recorded the first fighting major in team history, squaring off against Reid Perepeluk.
