Independence, MO – Kris Bennett and Ben Sokay scored, but the Iowa Heartlanders fell a goal short to the Kansas City Mavericks, 3-2, Friday at the Community Ice Center. Sokay responded 18 seconds later with a rip over the glove hand of Redmond to make it 3-2.Trevin Kozlowski stopped 16 shots over the first two periods. Ryan Edquist faced 13 more in the third and was given the loss (2 GA). Angus Redmond earned the win for Kansas City with 28 saves.The Heartlanders open the regular season with four of their first five games at home in October.
